The WIC at Farmers Markets & Food Hubs initiative expands access to fresh, locally grown food for WIC participants while supporting Hawaiʻi’s farmers and local food economy.

This initiative supports a growing statewide network of WIC-authorized farmers, markets, and food hubs working together to improve food access across Hawaiʻi.

As part of the Food Is Medicine movement, this effort strengthens connections between food, health, community and aina. Helping families access nutritious food while creating sustainable opportunities for local producers.

Why It Matters

When farmers markets and food hubs accept WIC:

  • Families gain more places to use their benefits for fresh local produce or poi

  • Farmers reach new customers and strengthen revenue

  • Communities benefit from a more resilient local food system

  • Food benefit dollars stay within our local economy

Increasing access to healthy, local food supports long-term well-being across Hawaiʻi.
